British farmers could save millions of pounds a year by regularly analysing their slurry and manure, according to a recent review carried out by NRM Laboratories. With nearly 90 million tonnes produced on farms every year the average value of nutrients supplied by livestock manures equates to almost £304 million a year - but nutrient contents can vary significantly, underlining the value of laboratory analysis for accurately predicting manure nutrient supply.
The Farmers Weekly Awards night 2016 was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, with over 1,200 farmers and industry leaders attending the event to celebrate the industry’s achievements. The event is by far the biggest agricultural awards in the UK. Compèred by TV presenter, Fiona Bruce and distinguished guests included Defra secretary Andrea Leadsom and NFU president Meurig Raymond.

Sci-Tech Laboratories is now able to offer a molecular diagnostic testing service specifically for veterinary surgeons and businesses involved in the pig/poultry industries. The new service is an addition to the existing and well-respected bacteriology and serology analytical testing services offered by the organisation. It will be provided from Sci-Tech’s facility at Craven Arms in Shropshire, and uses the Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction method to detect DNA and RNA in bacteria and viruses from a variety of sample matrices, including tissues, swabs and, additionally for pigs, Pigs Oral Fluid samples.

NRM Laboratories has launched an exciting new service to provide an assessment of the health of agricultural soils. “The new Soil Health Service has been developed to provide farmers and agronomists with the information they need to manage soil resources for optimum crop performance.,” says the company’s Duncan Rose “It will be a useful tool for both conventional and organic farming systems,” he adds.

The analytical services business, NRM Laboratories, based in Bracknell, Berkshire was delighted to host a special royal visit by His Royal Highness, the Earl of Wessex at the beginning of May.
It is with great sadness that Cawood Scientific heard on Thursday 8th May 2014 that our Chairman Sir Ben Gill had died after a long illness.
Laboratory Opens January 2014
A new state-of-the-art soil testing laboratory was officially opened by Sir Ben Gill last Thursday, 21 November 2013. The new laboratory has been purpose-built by NRM Laboratories, part of the Cawood Scientific Group, the UK’s largest independent one-stop shop for agricultural and associated analytical testing services.

Sci-Tech Laboratories is the latest company to become part of the Cawood Scientific Group, joining the well-known analytical businesses, NRM Laboratories and Sciantec Analytical Services. The announcement that Cawood has purchased Sci-Tech Laboratories for an undisclosed sum was made this morning (9 December). Sci-Tech is particularly well-known for its fast, efficient and accurate testing service for the UK poultry sector.
