Sciantec was originally established in 1991 in Dalton, North Yorkshire and had developed as a successful independent contract laboratory business, offering a specialised analytical testing service to the animal feed, animal health and pharmaceutical sectors.

NRM’s laboratory, has its origins back in the 1900’s under the ‘British Oil and Cake Mills’ operation in Selby. It now has over 20 years experience in testing feed and forages using NIR technology, backed up by extensive wet chemistry validation. In 2003 the laboratory relocated to a new, purpose built facility where it quickly into a major independent feed and forage testing laboratory.

In 2006 Sciantec moved its operation to the NRM Cawood site, and have now integrated both laboratory companies under the name of Sciantec Analytical Services, the combined operation is now one of the largest laboratories operating as a specialist livestock nutrition and animal health facility in the UK. In addition other services provided include an animal health section audited by the MHRA, a specialist grain testing laboratory and microbiology facility approved by DEFRA for testing of animal by products.

Its customer base is focused on the animal feed, pet feed, agricultural, forage, veterinary and pharmaceutical sectors and includes major animal feed manufacturers, poultry and pig producers, grain merchants, veterinary groups, farming consultancies, agricultural research establishments, other specialist laboratories and pharmaceutical companies.

The laboratory also manages a number of proficiency testing schemes focussed on the combinable crops sector both in the UK and on an international basis.
